RABBITHOLESTUDIO is excited to present new works from Miki Katagiri, Maggie Ens and Stephen Dirkes.
Miki Katagiri uses handmade hats to provide a platform for a variety of compelling narratives. Through inspired design and use of materials, characters and environments are brought to life so that each hat tells a story. With titles like "Fox wants to become hummingbird in his next life" and "Elephant Attack People," Miki employs fable-like storytelling to open a dialogue about carbon-footprinting and global interdependence, all the while making an open call for compassion and accountability.
Maggie Ens combines collage, assemblage and construction to make sculpture and installations. Ms. Ens' "environmentally sENSensitive" art re-assess accumulations of privilege and 21st century conspicuous consumption. Since 1984 she has had solo and group exhibitions in the US, France, Japan, Canada, Poland and Finland. Her art is in private and public collections and is included in the periodical collected works of The Fusion Art Museum at MOMA, the Whitney Museum, and the Guggenheim Museum among others.
Stephen Dirkes is a brooklyn-based video artist. Motion Etudes is the first of a multi-movement piece for recorder player, Alison Melville. It is the outcome of research on the Hermit Thrush and the product of a long distance Toronto-Victoria-NYC collaboration.
Spirit Tide will open on Thursday, October 7th and will be on view until October 30th.
